Scholarships Funds
The Catholic Foundation manages several funds that provide academic scholarships to students attending or wishing to attend a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Presently there are 3 scholarship funds available. The Maloof Fund, the Hetzel Fund and the Coghill Fund. Each has specific requirements for distributions. Those requirements are listed under each fund description below.
The Mary Ann Coghill Scholarship Fund. This fund is a designated fund and provides tuition assistance to students who attend Holy Ghost Catholic School, 6201 Ross SE in Albuquerque. For more information contact the school at 505-256-1563.
The August C.G. Hetzel and Fannie R. Hetzel Memorial Scholarship Fund. Established by Brother George Hetzel, FSC to honor his mother and father and recognize the dedication of three colleagues and fellow Brothers at the College of Santa Fe. Brother George is an alumnus of CSF and long time professor of Education and Psychology. Awarded to students at the College of Santa Fe.
It was years after I became a Brother and my dad had died that my mother told me that my dad had expressed regret that his name would stop with me as his only son. So I’m sure both my dad and my mother are happy that their names live on through the August C.G. and Fannie R. Hetzel Memorial Education Fund at The Catholic Foundation. I am also sure that they never imagined they would have enough money to sponsor scholarships. We were poor people when I was a child and they were always frugal. Now that frugality, plus the good investment decisions they and The Catholic Foundation have made, makes it possible for their support of Catholic education to continue. I’m grateful to them for making it possible and to The Catholic Foundation for making it continue.
