The Catholic Foundation Grants
Each year The Catholic Foundation awards grants from
unrestricted endowment funds to assist worthy projects and programs that
benefit the Catholic community and the community at large.
Through an application process, a committee reviews the requests for support and determines what programs and projects will receive funding for the fiscal year.
The Catholic Foundation is dedicated to serving the spiritual, social and educational needs of people in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe through grants to eligible Catholic organizations, schools, parishes and ministries.
At this time grants are expected to range in size from $2,000 to $7,000 each.

The Catholic Foundation follows an established procedure in making grants to ensure that equitable consideration is given to the needs and interests of the Catholic community, and grant monies are used for purposes consistent with Catholic social teaching and values.
From1994 to 2007 The Catholic Foundation has awarded $1,142,553 in grants.

Each year since 1994 The Catholic Foundation has awarded grants to parishes, schools, Catholic organizations, ministries in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and to affiliated organizations. These grants assist many diverse projects, programs and needs. Grants are made within the Archdiocese to improve the quality of life, support educational programs, assist spiritual development programs and provide needed support for parish school and Archdiocesan programs and projects. The Many Faces of Love: Grants 2007
Among the many faces of love are the dedicated people who provide programs, oversee projects and reach out to others in their communities. Each year The Catholic Foundation supports a variety of important, life affirming initiatives through the annual grant program. This year the Foundation is honored to take part in the following community efforts. The 2007 grants totaling $314,664.40 are made to:
Abbey of Christ in the Desert, Abiquiu

To acquire a computer software program to track donors, and raise funds more efficiently through an automated multi-level development program.
Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless

Funds will be applied for Tierra del Sol's residential treatment program for women and children suffering from co-occurring substance use, trauma-related and/or mental disorders. Activities developed for this program will help residents reintegrate into permanent housing and more independent living.
Aquinas Newman Center, Albuquerque

To start a new Peer Campus Ministry to increase the number of theologically and pastorally trained Peer Campus Ministers. Funds will be used to train and develop ministers in leadership skills, educate them about the theology of ministry, assist them in their faith formation, and provide them with mentoring opportunities, so that campus ministry at the Center can flourish.

To expand a program to preserve on microfilm documents of historical importance to the Archdiocese. Some documents date to the 1700’s.

Funds will be used to create training, programs and events to evangelize and meet the needs of the diverse young adult population in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. $5,000 will be applied to a stipend for an Archdiocesan Young Adult Coordinator for fiscal year 2008 and $2,000 towards the development, advertisement, implementation and evaluation of Young Adult training, programs and events for fiscal year 2008.

To establish a new program to train new volunteers on all levels to assist with different tasks at Barrett House. A Volunteer Coordinator will train the new volunteers and do background checks.
Casa Angelica, Albuquerque

Funds will purchase switch-compatible toys, electronic devices, grooming devices, vibrating pillows, musical devices and interactive games. These items will be hooked up to the adaptive switches which were purchased with the Foundation's 2006 grant.

To provide citizenship classes in Santa Fe to prepare clients for citizenship tests. Grant will provide funds for diversified materials, mileage and general supplies for the classes.
Cornerstones Community Partnerships

At the request of San Miguel Chapel, Santa Fe, Cornerstones has been retained to prepare a comprehensive preservation plan for the Chapel as current structural conditions gravely endanger the survival of this 300 year-old structure. Funds will be used by Cornerstones to assist with this project.

Funds will support Cornerstones' community-based initiative program by providing hands-on technical assistance and training programs to mayordomos, youth and elders, in preservation of historical adobe churches in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

Funds will allow Cornerstones' architectural/technical manager to provide preservation/technical oversight to the Isleta work crew as they perform the initial task of removing the concrete collar of the main nave of the structure.

Community members have requested Cornerstones to assist in repairing the roof of San Geronimo Mission Church in Las Vegas, NM. Cornerstones' staff will oversee workers and volunteers during this repair. Funds will be applied to support the costs of repairing the roof.
Dismas House New Mexico

To purchase materials to produce 100 resource books for distribution to residents who are in transition from prison to the community. The books will include a map of Albuquerque, pocket appointment/calendar book, etc. This resource notebook will assist them in the reintegration process once they leave Dismas House.

To assist in purchasing two computers and two printers for two of Dismas House residences. The use of computers and access to the Internet will help the residents in their successful transition from jail or prison back into society.

To purchase math libraries for grades 1-4 to expand the Accelerated Math Program started last year. Last year's grant provided initial setup for the fifth grade math library, i.e., technical assistance, scanners, and scan cards.

The grant will purchase a 70 Microsoft Professional Office Pro Plus 2007 server and a laptop. The current server needs replacement. A laptop computer will be used by the Physical Education teacher to track students' progress toward grade level benchmarks of physical activity and fitness.
Las Trampas Mission Church, Chimayo

The grant will be used to restore 3 areas of the church: the sacristy floor which is in poor condition; finish reconstruction of the platform in the choir loft; reconstruct the west wall of the outside courtyard to prevent collapse.
Northern Tewa Missions

The grant will be used for supplies for the religious education program servicing three pueblos: San Ildefonso, Tesuque and Santa Clara, as the number of students has increased. Funds will also be used for travel related expenses.

A grant is made to purchase a computer, accessories, printer, monitor, keyboard and a maintenance contract to be used for the religious education program. Additionally, to purchase religious instruction material to bring the program up-to-date.
Pastoral Counseling Center, Santa Fe

Funds will be applied to the Subsidized Services Program which provides therapy to limited income and/or no insurance coverage clients.
Project Defending Life, Albuquerque

Project Defending Life will use funds to purchase informational brochures to educate women and couples regarding the impact of an abortion. Also, funds will be used to offer financial assistance to pregnant mothers during and after their pregnancies and are in dire financial need.

For a new floor for this 1900’s mission church in Canjilon. The old church has been partially restored, and a new floor needs to be constructed.
San Juan Bautista Mission Church, Coyote

For purchase of new carpeting with foam underneath. The present carpet has unraveled and is a hazard for seniors. Also for replace ment of the sanctuary carpet with wood laminate to provide ease in cleaning and increase the esthetics of the church.

A grant to provide instructional material, copier, teacher workshops, retreats for confirmation and RCIA candidates and stipend for part-time Religious Ed & Youth Ministry Coordinator to serve their Spanish-speaking adults and school youth. To purchase air-conditioning so the parish hall can be used during summer for diversified religious activities and to repair the parish hall's front and back doors which are badly deteriorated so that the air conditioning can be used more efficiently.

A grant to purchase bi-lingual student textbooks and accompanying teacher’s manuals for
religious education programs.

This historical church is in possession of 15th through 18th century artwork. A grant is made to
preserve the artworks.

A grant is made for renovation of electrical system and light fixtures.

The grant will provide bag lunches, socks, gas money and co-pays for medicine for
indigent and homeless people.

Restoration of sixteen mission churches, some over 150 years old, is the focus of
this community program. Through grant funds participants will be taught restoration skills
Priorities are Le Doux, San Jose, Luceros and Santa Rito.

2004 Grant Awards: Partners in Changing Lives
Each year The Catholic Foundation partners with parishes, organizations and programs that reflect the commitment of the Foundation to improve the spiritual, mental and physical well-being of people in our communities. This year the Foundation is awarding $77,503 in grants to the following applicants.
The grant will be used to carry out a plan of action for the Thresholds Program. The program responds to the urgent need for trained mentors to work with adjudicated youth, helping them to change anti-social attitudes and behaviors, and eventually become productive members of society.
Barrett Foundation – Barrett House Emergency Shelter
$5,000
To provide shelter and meals to more women and children, Barrett House needs kitchen equipment for a new emergency shelter. The grant makes possible meal service to over 850 women and children who will seek shelter at Barrett House.
Capilla de San Pedro, Santa Cruz

The funds from this grant will be used for capital improvements and renovations needed at the Capilla. This is an Archdiocesan missionary church.

Holy Family Meal Site, Albuquerque
$3,000
The development of a horticulture program to benefit seniors in the South Valley is funded. The goal is to have seniors cultivating some of their own food to improve nutrition and provide a horticultural therapy program that can benefit more senior residents in the area.
Holy Ghost Catholic School, Albuquerque

Holy Ghost School will expand and improve the Reading Renaissance instructional program, which includes the STAR Reading Test and the Accelerated Reader information system. The grant will also fund the purchase of non-fiction books at a wide variety of reading levels.
La Cofradia de Los Hermanos de La Morada de San Rafael Archangel, Tierra Amarilla

The grant will be used to assist in the renovation of the “morada” and provide a safe environment for the religious activities of the Cofradia.

Collaborative, Albuquerque The grant will fund the Family Leadership Program which consists of onsite affordable child care for employees, health education and advocacy, adult education and Buena Familia Escuelas. With this funding Southwest Creations Collaborative will be able to offer an additional 15 low-income immigrant families the opportunity to engage in the programs.
The funds will be used to help subsidize fees for low-income people to attend weekend, day and evening formation programs and retreats.
