About
Endowments
Any individual
or institution can establish an endowment fund with The Catholic
Foundation. Often donors have a special
reason or purpose for starting an endowment, and so a fund can be tailored to fit
their own personal charitable interests.
All endowment
funds have a perpetual existence. This means that your gift principal will
never be used, and only the earnings will be distributed. Your gift will have an infinite capacity to
keep giving far beyond your own lifetime.
And, your endowment can provide a stable, predictable source of income
for worthy programs.
Starting an Endowment Fund
Now
An immediate
gift of $5,000 or more, in the form of cash, securities, life insurance or real
estate, allows you to create your own endowment fund quickly and easily. We will prepare a simple agreement that
specifies how you wish the endowment to be named and how the income will be
used.
You, and others,
may add to the fund at any time. Many
people like to make contributions in honor of birthdays, anniversaries or other
special occasions.
Starting an Endowment Fund
by Bequest
Some people
prefer to make their largest gifts through their will. To ensure that you charitable wishes are
fulfilled, you may establish an endowment agreement early, and then allow the
endowment to be funded later by your bequest.
We recommend
that you consult an attorney or financial advisor for assistance in making a
gift by a will.
Tax advantages
Whichever way
you choose to establish an endowment fund with The Catholic Foundation, your
contributions will qualify for the maximum tax deductions allowed by law.
Types of
Endowments Established with The Catholic Foundation
Unrestricted Funds
Unrestricted
Endowments allow the Foundation optimum flexibility in responding to grant
requests. They are funded by donors who
wish to support the Foundation’s
grant
program, and whose charitable gifts are not restricted to a
particular purpose.
Field of Interest Funds
These endowments
are established by donors wishing to support a specific cause within the scope
of the Foundation’s mission. Income from
these funds is distributed through the Foundation’s grant program, to Catholic
institutions serving an area of special interest to the donors. Examples of these funds are education, health
and human services and clergy support.
Designated Funds
The designated
endowments are created by donors wishing to support a particular organization,
parish, school or ministry within the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Income from these funds is paid directly to
the institutions named by the donors.

Donor-Advised Funds
Donor-Advised endowments allow donors to direct the distribution of income each year to the program, organization, parish or school of their choice.
Temporary Funds
As a service to
donors and organizations, the Foundation accepts and manages charitable
contributions on a temporary basis, for the purpose of making timed
distributions for special projects.
Agency Funds
Catholic
organizations, schools and parishes establish agency endowments with the
Foundation to ensure the continuation and growth of their ministries and
programs for future generations. The
annual income distribution is paid directly to the donor institutions to be
used at their discretion. Preservation
of endowment capital through sound investment practices provides a stable and
enduring source of income for parishes, schools and organizations throughout
the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.
